NPHS Managing Director Paul McFarling recently attended Data Centre World 2026 at ExCeL London, one of the sector’s key industry events, bringing together operators, engineers and infrastructure leaders focused on resilient, sustainable and future-ready data centres. The 2026 event took place on 4–5 March at ExCeL London.
The visit was a valuable opportunity to meet suppliers, explore the latest developments in critical infrastructure, and discuss the fire protection challenges facing modern data centre environments. With demand for high-performance digital infrastructure continuing to grow, the need for fire suppression systems that protect both people and business continuity has never been greater.
For data centres, traditional suppression methods are not always the best fit. Sensitive equipment, uptime requirements and the risk of collateral damage mean specifiers are increasingly looking for solutions that are both highly effective and carefully engineered for modern environments. That is exactly where commercial water mist systems come into their own. The performance case for water mist is becoming stronger all the time. Analysis of fire incident data in England from 2018 to 2024 showed that water mist systems controlled fires in 95.3% of cases and extinguished them in 58.6%, compared with 90.7% and 27.6% respectively for sprinklers.
